I recently the watched the documentary "Fed UP" which discusses food addiction, the problem of obesity and the propaganda from the dairy, meat and food industries. It brought my attention to the 1977 McGovern Report: which warned back then that obesity would soon be the #1 form of malnutrition in the US, stating diets are too high in fatty meats, saturated fats, cholesterol, sugar!! This United the egg, sugar, dairy and meat industries to reject the McGovern Report and demand a rewrite. Lobbies from these industries were able to have this report revised and a new industry angle was born...low fat, then low carb... then sugar free!!! People are told that if they want to lose weight they must eat less, exercise more.

They are told they need to take personal responsibility, have more willpower or called lazy!! This is one big FAT lie. Instead of telling people to just eat more real whole foods, the food industry provides healthier alternatives to processed food. Junk is junk. In my 20s I was a fitness fanatic, trained 3-4 hours a day and I was totally obsessed with my looks. Even though I looked strong and fit on the outside, I was not healthy on the inside, and my body was full of toxicity. I was eating lots of meat and dairy products and was having hardly any fruit and no starchy vegetables. This rapid weight loss, fed my ego and also had other psychological effects such as mood swings, irritability, depression and disordered eating behaviours.

Thankfully I WOKE up before my body toxicity turned into disease and cancer.

It is time for this vicious cycle to stop!!

On vegan diets people would be invariably healthier, lowering significantly the impact on public health system. Aside from the economic and environmental arguments, veganism also offers a strong spiritual benefit.

Veganism stops one from actively partaking in the slaughter of animals. By doing so also frees oneself from any association with that destruction. The thought forms of slaughter, consumption, destruction and disease, which carry low vibrational frequencies, are be replaced by unity and compassion, which vibrate higher, are lighter in density and uplifting in nature.

By disengaging from the reality of the current food industry you are also disengaging from the destruction that it perpetuates. Animals are sentient beings, the pain and suffering that they endure is real and spreads through their blood like poison when they’re slaughtered. I’ve heard it described as a death hormone that flushes the body and shuts everything down. The consumption of such food may be high in proteins and iron, but carries with it death and trapped energies of slaughter and violence.

The illogic of mass farming has been documented exhaustively. It requires ten thousand liters of water to produce one pound of meat. The food and water required in the production of animals and animal products for our consumption could easily be used to solve world hunger.

The choice to be vegan is a sustainable and logical one. It will make you healthier, feel younger, rejuvenate you, contribute towards solving world hunger, promote cleaner food production, severely debilitate the ludicrous powers of multinational food corporations, reduce the wastage of water (which experts believe will be the worlds most precious resource soon), and have a drastic impact on the environment.

Even with the understanding of this truth, even with the knowledge of the suffering and unfairness of consumption of animals and animal products, not everyone will be able to just flip and become vegan. I believe that we all have a responsibility not only to ourselves but also our fellow earthlings and mother nature. We all believe that the world can be a much better place than what it is. It does not need to have slaughter and consumption, nor war and murder. Before our collective reality bends to the will of its inhabitants, we must first change our internal landscape.

This can take time, and so anyone that is interested in veganism should be supported and encouraged by those already walking the path.

Bring peace to your being by not partaking unconsciously or consciously in the active slaughter of other sentient beings and maybe we may see that reflected in the world around us.

As long as there are slaughterhouses there will be battlefields.

- Tolstoy

My Secret Obsession: Dark Chocolate Vegan Mousse

I love chocolate, and this decadent, silky, rich chocolate mousse satisfied ALL my cravings whilst providing my body with an array of healing benefits. @Veganrawrior's Dark Chocolate Vegan Mousse Recipe: 2 ripe avocados 1 cup of dried figs (baby figs) 1/2 tsp of organic stevia 2 tbs of Raw Cacao 1 tsp of cinnamon 1 tbs of hemp protein 1 tsp of mesquite powder 3 tsps of rice malt syrup 3 tsps of hemp oil 1 cup of rice milk Soak dried figs in 1 cup of rice milk overnight with stevia and cinnamon.

Raw Vegan Chocolate Caramel Cookie!!

Raw Vegan Chocolate Caramel Cookie!! I do both.

Cold-pressed juicing:

I use a single gear cold press juicer. Cold press juicers extract juice from your produce via a slow speed ‘cold press’ masticating process.

This masticating process is done by first crushing the fruits and veggies, then pressing them to squeeze out the highest juice yield without using heat.

What’s the difference to your standard juicer?

First difference is the colour and texture!! Cold-press green juices are fluoro green..

This colour is a true representation of the abundance of living nutrients in the juice.

Cold-pressed juices are gently extraction and retain the plants life force.

This process produces a thicker, brighter juicer that has three to five times more nutrients than normal juice.

Cheaper, centrifugal juicers introduce heat and oxygen and destroy the much-needed nutrients in your fruits and vegetables. In contrast to the rough extraction of centrifugal juicers, mastication or cold-press juicers compress fruit and vegetables to ‘squeeze’ out their juice

What’s the difference between juicing and blending?

When we juice we are remove indigestible fibre which makes the nutrients more readily available to the body in much larger quantities than if you were to eat the fruits and vegetables whole.

When you drink cold-pressed green juices, your body is soaked in nutrients. It’s like injecting goodness straight into your blood stream.

Smoothies on the other hand contain all of the fibre from the vegetables however, the blending process breaks the fibre apart and makes it easier to digest.

This makes smoothie more filling and can acts as your breakfast or meal replacement where as I usually consume juices before meals.

Juicing and blending Tips:

• Try consume after 20 min, after that oxidation from light and air will begin to destroy nutrients. If you can't drink juice immediately store juice in dark airtight container- glass looks good but won't protect as much as a dark BPA free bottle)

Freezing can detroy and damage the cell structure of your fruits and veggies. Try limiting the amount of frozen fruits and veggies your consume. Fresh is best!

Banana Bread Recipe & The Power of Resistant Starch

Just because you're RAW doesn't mean you have to give up bread and Christmas is the perfect time for baking! Resistant starch is a WEIGHT-LOSS powerhouse because it does not get absorbed into the bloodstream or get broken down into glucose. This means that it does not raise blood sugar.

Resistant starch improves health, is that it feeds the friendly bacteria in the intestine and increases production of short-chain fatty acids like butyrate. Some carbohydrates, such as sugars and most starch, are rapidly digested and absorbed as glucose into the body through the small intestine and subsequently used for short-term energy needs or stored.

Resistant starch, on the other hand, resists digestion and passes through to the large intestine where it acts like dietary fiber.

Eating foods rich in resistant starch nourishes your gut bacteria, which helps maintain intestinal health and reduces the risk of developing colorectal cancer.

Resistant starch is found in many whole plant foods, but the amount can vary depending on how the food is processed.

Foods that are High in Resistance starch include raw rolled oats (overnight oats recipe), cashew nuts, potatoes roasted then cooled, brown rice, bananas, beans, lentils, wholewheat pasta, barley, peas & rye.

Figs & Oats Breakfast Bowl

Figs & Oats Breakfast Bowl: ½ cup rolled oats 8 wild figs (baby figs) 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1 cup of rice milk Soak oats in 1 cup of rice milk overnight with baby figs and cinnamon. In some countries fully milled and polished white rice must be "enriched" with vitamins B1, B3, and iron. But the form of these nutrients when added back into the processed rice is not the same as in the original unprocessed version, and at least 11 lost nutrients are not replaced in any form even with rice "enrichment."

Women Who Eat Whole Grains Weigh Less

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition underscores the importance of choosing whole grains such as brown rice rather than refined grain, i.e., white rice, to maintain a healthy body weight. In this Harvard Medical School / Brigham and Women's Hospital study, which collected data on over 74,000 female nurses aged 38-63 years over a 12 year period, weight gain was inversely associated with the intake of high-fiber, whole-grain foods but positively related to the intake of refined-grain foods. Not only did women who consumed more whole grains consistently weigh less than those who ate less of these fiber-rich foods, but those consuming the most dietary fiber from whole grains were 49% less likely to gain weight compared to those eating foods made from refined grains.

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=128

Hearty Vegan Lentil Wrap 💛💜💚

Hearty Vegan lentil Wrap 💛💜💚 Nourishing bowl of lentils with parsley, dill, garlic, apple cider vinegar and fresh truss tomatos. Lentils are high in folic acid, vegan protein & important source of iron for vegan/vegetarians, serving as protection against anemia. They're also a good source of magnesium, which helps lower blood pressure and allows blood to flow more freely. 💕💜

💡✨RAW FACT:

Lentils are one per cent fat and 44 per cent insoluble dietary fibre, which helps eliminate blood cholesterol.

Love Your Heart—Eat Lentils

In a study that examined food intake patterns and risk of death from coronary heart disease, researchers followed more than 16,000 middle-aged men in the U.S., Finland, The Netherlands, Italy, former Yugoslavia, Greece and Japan for 25 years. Typical food patterns were: higher consumption of dairy products in Northern Europe; higher consumption of meat in the U.S.; higher consumption of vegetables, legumes, fish, and wine in Southern Europe; and higher consumption of cereals, soy products, and fish in Japan. When researchers analyzed this data in relation to the risk of death from heart disease, they found that legumes were associated with a whopping 82% reduction in risk!!

A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine confirms that eating high fiber foods, such as lentils, helps prevent heart disease. Almost 10,000 American adults participated in this study and were followed for 19 years. People eating the most fiber, 21 grams per day, had 12% less coronary heart disease (CHD) and 11% less cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared to those eating the least, 5 grams daily. Those eating the most water-soluble dietary fiber fared even better with a 15% reduction in risk of CHD and a 10% risk reduction in CVD.

Lentils' contribution to heart health lies not just in their fiber, but in the significant amounts of folate and magnesium these little wonders supply. Folate helps lower levels of homocysteine, an amino acid that is an intermediate product in an important metabolic process called the methylation cycle. When folate (as well as vitamin B6) are around, homocysteine is immediately converted into cysteine or methionine, both of which are benign. When these B vitamins are not available, levels of homocysteine increase in the bloodstream—a bad idea since homocysteine damages artery walls and is considered a serious risk factor for heart disease.

Lentils' magnesium puts yet another plus in the column of its beneficial cardiovascular effects. Magnesium is Nature's own calcium channel blocker. When enough magnesium is around, veins and arteries breathe a sigh of relief and relax, which lessens resistance and improves the flow of blood, oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. Studies show that a deficiency of magnesium is not only associated with heart attack but that immediately following a heart attack, lack of sufficient magnesium promotes free radical injury to the heart. Want to literally keep your heart happy? Eat lentils.

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=52

Raw Vegan Chocolate Hemp Heart

Raw Vegan Chocolate Hemp Heart Recipe: 3/4 cup raw cacao butter melted (low heat- under 45 degrees) 1/2 cup raw cacao powder 1/4 cup hemp oil 1/4 cup rice malt syrup 1/4 cup goji berries 1/4 cup chia seeds 1/4 cup of activated cashew nuts pinch of celtic sea salt Melt the raw cacao using a double boiler method.
